I got through with the illustration for the first page. I'm trying to put more line work into my work. My mark making is a bit wonky but I bet by the time I finish all the illustrations for the book I'll make better and more confident marks. Below is my tight sketch and inked version.<br />

I won't show the process of every illustration because I'll feel like I'm giving the book away. But I will share some future plans with you. The book will be in black and white. I don't think I'll make copies to sell because I'm not really confident in my writing. But if someone wanted a copy I wouldn't mind selling them a copy, only if they asked though. But I think I'll sell a pdf of the colored illustrations on gumroad. Well I"m looking forward to making more progress. I might post my favorite sketches and stuff in the future.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-18873080891132772342014-03-30T13:14:00.000-04:002014-03-30T13:14:35.818-04:00Slowly but surely I had to put postgal on hold for a while because I was working on a test for a company I wanted to work for. I finished working on the test and I'm back to working on postgal and things are going so slow. I started off trying to work on 5 thumbnails at a time and that wasn't working. So my new plan is to just take things one page at a time. I think by doing this I can take my time and not rush things. And by not rushing things I can make less mistakes. I really want this project to come out well and look professional.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimqUWWPalErhoGenRxzx0C0EIGfeOmHclLEyJHJinXtwPy8wvwP9nRK5tgaq_o6ENY4VVguWkOREHY-hNPsT_w4Kf1lzen9w1eomLFM4AX-HisbjScEZwhUSC6YF2yPEAX52_9nIJhoR0/s1600/CYMERA_20140328_142513.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimqUWWPalErhoGenRxzx0C0EIGfeOmHclLEyJHJinXtwPy8wvwP9nRK5tgaq_o6ENY4VVguWkOREHY-hNPsT_w4Kf1lzen9w1eomLFM4AX-HisbjScEZwhUSC6YF2yPEAX52_9nIJhoR0/s1600/CYMERA_20140328_142513.jpg" height="400" width="390" /></a></div>
<br />
Here are some sketches of postgal. I haven't come up with a name for her yet. I was thinking of naming her Gabby but I don't know if I'll stick to that. But I wanted to draw her more. When I first started on the this project I was having problems drawing her and making her look like she did in the collage I did. But I'm glad these came out decent. I hope to make some progress soon and start posting some works in progress here.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-48134683315450961852014-02-17T15:22:00.000-05:002014-02-21T21:57:58.469-05:00Working on a book: Postgal<div style="margin: 0in;">
I always
wanted to start a personal long term project and actually finish it. Of course
I worked on long term projects for school but never for myself. So I decided to
write, illustrate, and self publish my own book. Even though I wouldn't
consider myself a great writer I wanted to try anyway. I mean it is a personal
project, it shouldn't matter. But I do want to give it my all and not cut any
corners with this project. My goal is to have the book printed and bound by
June, or at least be done with the whole book by June. If the book is done I
could print and bind it anytime.</div>
<div style="font-size: 12pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0in;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv9x8un8tifbEDTMS7RqmY8NhSMOqGSkD6vleYDIkkh66sqRWL83rKHNT1RjsU_Gr-dP1Q6Hc9g1e9_H7_SYGYY87GNrE86GvZ2DDJBUU9EeIZs3EycXnrZyZSttkC3Gs7ycTKf470l4c/s1600/postgal+small.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; font-size: 12pt; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv9x8un8tifbEDTMS7RqmY8NhSMOqGSkD6vleYDIkkh66sqRWL83rKHNT1RjsU_Gr-dP1Q6Hc9g1e9_H7_SYGYY87GNrE86GvZ2DDJBUU9EeIZs3EycXnrZyZSttkC3Gs7ycTKf470l4c/s1600/postgal+small.png" height="320" width="227" /></a><span style="font-size: small;"> </span>The story
will be called postgal and it's basically about a girl delivering a package in
a busy city. It all started with the image to the left. I always liked postal stuff so I
did a collage depicting a delivery girl looking at a map. After looking at the
finished illustration I begin to make up a story for the girl and it eventually
turned into postgal. Right now I have some of the character designs done and
I've typed out 50% of the story. Typing out the beginning and end was easy but
filling in the middle is more challenging. But I figured out how to fill up the
middle it's just a matter of actually typing everything out and making sure
it flows the way I want it to. </div>
<div style="margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0in;">
I've been
reading children's books and short stories for reference. I was hoping they
would make me a better writer lol. But I guess I'll get better the more I
write. I want to visit the closest library and check out some more book and
study them too. It's been so long since I've been to an actual library and I'm
actually looking forward to it.</div>
<div style="margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="margin: 0in;">
I made a
sketchbook specifically for postal sketches. I'll be posted progress pictures
once I start the actual illustrating process. I made a schedule for the book
and I'm suppose to have the whole manuscript typed by March. I'm glad I'm about
half done with that. </div>

I'm glad I have a friend that can get me out of the house and take me on adventures. We went to Ice-Atlanta, Oakland Cemetery, and Atlanta Zine Fest.<br />
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Ice-Atlanta</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5RJnZIVqEED_Mrv3By9kf_ntQBEiJtesyFSpxlNSA5MQldaAb7QWg16AydwcJF0Q9M7f4gDfQTyyrvjXlwIC0hlUAseuj79DGpB-s5pLmLk_S9PHRJANKp7hnn6GRN3BjgBbXYuixJIw/s1600/20130608_111237.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5RJnZIVqEED_Mrv3By9kf_ntQBEiJtesyFSpxlNSA5MQldaAb7QWg16AydwcJF0Q9M7f4gDfQTyyrvjXlwIC0hlUAseuj79DGpB-s5pLmLk_S9PHRJANKp7hnn6GRN3BjgBbXYuixJIw/s320/20130608_111237.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Ice-Atlanta (Ice meaning Indie Craft Experience) was nice. It was more crafty than I thought. I mean I know "craft" is in the name but I had no idea how it would actually be. I'm still debating if I want to be a vendor there for the fall. I think if I share a table I would be ok. I've been thinking of things I could sell. So far I only have my tarot cards and postcard sets in mind. Hope I can think of more.<br />
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Oakland Cemetery</b></div>
After Ice-Atlanta we drove pass the Oakland Cemetery and I was amazed at all the statues and obelisks I saw and asked my friend if we could stop by and walk around. I'm so glad I did. I saw amazing sculpture and mausoleums. But it's actually a pretty historical place. Let me share some pictures with you.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn3v9zVAVEy977CbYd-22HaxYszlnKFlMyM8qm_3kK-88UaimAVxOtkhauRjb5R1YfelhRCfZEDsn3GtdeGUrcMMLqPEoJRLvLm8MWlGhGCwNnWXmeCMXaVF0MhfNBslvw6i6oM8ltN88/s1600/20130608_114652.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn3v9zVAVEy977CbYd-22HaxYszlnKFlMyM8qm_3kK-88UaimAVxOtkhauRjb5R1YfelhRCfZEDsn3GtdeGUrcMMLqPEoJRLvLm8MWlGhGCwNnWXmeCMXaVF0MhfNBslvw6i6oM8ltN88/s320/20130608_114652.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I believe this was in the Jewish section of the cemetery. Me and my friend wondered if there's special architecture or symbolism for gravestones/markers because we saw a lot of different symbols. It was very nice and interesting.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6f-6nwoTMcGIat1hRrcrAm2CZEJxGTQu8R46-A-l0E3YKrSsWhPKUO4iVBkq_TstxEy4YZvK_qwUjMEbI8syM1erI1I1r343XvKLhil-bwvt3q1Kz7eghRB_6GfuejBvK9ZpXbkhnjQ0/s1600/20130608_115012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6f-6nwoTMcGIat1hRrcrAm2CZEJxGTQu8R46-A-l0E3YKrSsWhPKUO4iVBkq_TstxEy4YZvK_qwUjMEbI8syM1erI1I1r343XvKLhil-bwvt3q1Kz7eghRB_6GfuejBvK9ZpXbkhnjQ0/s320/20130608_115012.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I saw some sculptures but a lot of them had their heads knocked off. We didn't know if it was because of a tornado that went through the area in 2008 or someone going around knocking them off. But this one was still in tact. It's probably more recent. Even though the cemetery was founded in the 1800s people are still being buried there.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRx7iDNNXH-IMY7NJNePbhOOZbEOLwitlfWPjJrRHlbzUcTDKt5oJnEQq3DTDgkc2NH1aCVQe6BQNFJK4kt18drj-KKwTxPlQAg0z8BfCsvXUYlpofMbNyIktAVWsLuh9GtQxNYZZq5fM/s1600/20130608_115834.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRx7iDNNXH-IMY7NJNePbhOOZbEOLwitlfWPjJrRHlbzUcTDKt5oJnEQq3DTDgkc2NH1aCVQe6BQNFJK4kt18drj-KKwTxPlQAg0z8BfCsvXUYlpofMbNyIktAVWsLuh9GtQxNYZZq5fM/s320/20130608_115834.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
This was one of the sculptures that lost its head. It still looked good though. It just looks really nice and I just wonder how much things like this cost.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9WIo9e1vXungy-316P3U23YSiM-CwupzyeRGX8Vu1wSs4IXEOzUDCBQiSVk-OY2VuVunGCKeHtmd0CfChmYdvrdf5U9ikmKsyVsLUW4pzIug6UlTITFvpNH22YNcFNX4nK0hjl7_WG1o/s1600/20130608_120057.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9WIo9e1vXungy-316P3U23YSiM-CwupzyeRGX8Vu1wSs4IXEOzUDCBQiSVk-OY2VuVunGCKeHtmd0CfChmYdvrdf5U9ikmKsyVsLUW4pzIug6UlTITFvpNH22YNcFNX4nK0hjl7_WG1o/s320/20130608_120057.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think this was one of the most ridiculously awesome mausoleums I saw in the cemetery. It's like a mini church. I wanted to cry. You can't see it here, but if you got to see it in person you can look through the front doors and see the stained glass windows in the back of the mausoleum. This mausoleum had stained glass windows!!! I was definitely amazed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgABBxRRgHzk0h8Uujsxk43BEKjnVk9KFdYIwJzGy7moKP_9JpKKoFFHdhUejSah4Nbt-axRN__rYBKYHYIDC9DmRFN7oLrwMWmPROurJZOMEMSL0gvD5gWz8CvTAP70LN5AR7a1K-IS5k/s1600/20130608_120039.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgABBxRRgHzk0h8Uujsxk43BEKjnVk9KFdYIwJzGy7moKP_9JpKKoFFHdhUejSah4Nbt-axRN__rYBKYHYIDC9DmRFN7oLrwMWmPROurJZOMEMSL0gvD5gWz8CvTAP70LN5AR7a1K-IS5k/s320/20130608_120039.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Here's a side view of the mausoleum. I really want to know how much something like this costed. Like it's a mini church! But it was nice seeing something like this. There were other mausoleums there also. Some looked like Greek temples. But this one was my favorite.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEtYvkQM_ONONDBApNft3OvYnd-5394jlueC_W0__6nsoVF9A7fjRJfZnDZqWnR-INWc0ZPMMqotn5aCLG5CEmaLAXg7h-w-HwQJ14bjX3Vl1cA4wDSQlYza5h-RcFiXH34PjMdBZO7Ww/s1600/20130608_120152.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEtYvkQM_ONONDBApNft3OvYnd-5394jlueC_W0__6nsoVF9A7fjRJfZnDZqWnR-INWc0ZPMMqotn5aCLG5CEmaLAXg7h-w-HwQJ14bjX3Vl1cA4wDSQlYza5h-RcFiXH34PjMdBZO7Ww/s320/20130608_120152.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Here's another sculpture. I think this one is also more recent since it looked really good and unharmed by the elements. Wish I could have gotten closer. I didn't want to step on people's graves. I'm always afraid I'll step on someone's grave. Some cemeteries don't have defined paths are aren't well taken care of and I have to watch where I step and I apologize under my breath just in case I happen to be stepping on someone's grave.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK42gwgwo8ilcqu9k6TWukvdy5tqLEJCFuIAfQAWaCVn6eabgYIAQExBfH25HsMaAWcfOzp8C8mdyALIjapB1Lmgwk8YWnI8PRNIBgeU6gnAVXedXxreF9zIMNyjN9ESjnbfwdoPuVCjE/s1600/20130608_120337.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjK42gwgwo8ilcqu9k6TWukvdy5tqLEJCFuIAfQAWaCVn6eabgYIAQExBfH25HsMaAWcfOzp8C8mdyALIjapB1Lmgwk8YWnI8PRNIBgeU6gnAVXedXxreF9zIMNyjN9ESjnbfwdoPuVCjE/s320/20130608_120337.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
This sculpture was very striking because the figure didn't have a face. Like it looked intentional. Me and my friend wondered why the artists or the person who commissioned it wanted it to be like that.<br />
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Atlanta Zine Fest</b></div>
Our last adventure was to the Atlanta Zine Fest. This day was the first time I took marta. We got on the trains and I loved it. They were super fast!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgBAbT05XwBWWAjigHKaJejKXp9rtaeP4PYONJ4UUwlWx3clLnt7cOQU44Sx3eNyhgbDxAR8TZJcDeQmw13LvRyVX9MDW3XeITGIb0cxovorLzd_1apiFxmJNaNxlpUIjM8Trao4yz_RI/s1600/20130609_155747.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgBAbT05XwBWWAjigHKaJejKXp9rtaeP4PYONJ4UUwlWx3clLnt7cOQU44Sx3eNyhgbDxAR8TZJcDeQmw13LvRyVX9MDW3XeITGIb0cxovorLzd_1apiFxmJNaNxlpUIjM8Trao4yz_RI/s320/20130609_155747.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The event was in this old building. Well this was taken from upstairs. I thought it was cool although I was very itchy the whole time. It was also very humid which made me even more uncomfortable.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaa-ID0yKMLayzQGQV9OtlLcAFVFyceuwQTE_s6mDv2sRkZ14FCijafElhoNNQeBHCt9hIWQMXeZ7cz9NZj0H9P8YEghhFSj32CZE2Fm-KLtFmu8pMRtDFDaWRci_pjxQXJc2XflW7llA/s1600/20130609_165008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaa-ID0yKMLayzQGQV9OtlLcAFVFyceuwQTE_s6mDv2sRkZ14FCijafElhoNNQeBHCt9hIWQMXeZ7cz9NZj0H9P8YEghhFSj32CZE2Fm-KLtFmu8pMRtDFDaWRci_pjxQXJc2XflW7llA/s320/20130609_165008.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
A zine I got for free! It's a zine by Knife!! or <a href="http://atomicheatray.tumblr.com/">Atomic Heat Ray</a>. He did a demo and talk on stickers. I didn't know there were people out there trading stickers. I thought it was cool and I would love to make some stickers to send him.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLLUqZ7ndpesGyXQuPigKJFYt-Hq3EatpG5xxRZ5SBCzy-4MH1oOJIh2YDFBUmnqEYsYwvXh8YaLPMdQV12-ERwY_Be2XTuMXKhPaQIYj2OZatft3Cs3wtGLPFhy3NC4g8JF7ZclI9Tnc/s1600/20130611_102128.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLLUqZ7ndpesGyXQuPigKJFYt-Hq3EatpG5xxRZ5SBCzy-4MH1oOJIh2YDFBUmnqEYsYwvXh8YaLPMdQV12-ERwY_Be2XTuMXKhPaQIYj2OZatft3Cs3wtGLPFhy3NC4g8JF7ZclI9Tnc/s320/20130611_102128.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
This was a sticker we got at the end of the demo/talk. I don't really like to stick stickers on things because I hate when they peel up and get dust and dirt on the sticky side and it just looks gross. I could keep a sticker book I guess. But I don't know. I would like to be a vendor here but transportation would be a pain.<br />

<br />
But my weekend was great and full of adventure. I'm so glad I got to go to all those places. I think it provided me with some good material to blog about. And now that I have a smart phone with a good camera it will be easier to take pictures now! Thanks for reading.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-88893985111516195862013-05-30T19:46:00.000-04:002013-05-30T19:46:11.576-04:00It's been a whileLot's of things have been going on considering that this is my last quarter. I'm graduating soon!!! I believed I worked hard these past 4 years and I've been through a lot. But it's nice to see that all my hard work is paying off.<br />
<br />
I guess the first thing I can talk about is that my balance was paid off. I was really happy about that and it took a lot of stress off my shoulders. I would like to thank my mom for being supportive, having faith, and also paying off my balance. I really hope I'll be able to pay her back in the future. Without the stress of paying off my balance I was able to focus more on my work in my classes. I didn't have to worry anymore. I was actually going to graduate.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsE6LUr8gvMrRJZYQXQnquT5QCMjPR6zWpkSv3163CdWZIfTl25ojFyPvd9pV0KULA8FVHKUB7FuHusFhbKjKBz-tr4vQS2IlmeLiIT5nOfkj21k8v5fYftvwENGh9tOfWOIdNdD_-sCc/s1600/0504131843-00.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsE6LUr8gvMrRJZYQXQnquT5QCMjPR6zWpkSv3163CdWZIfTl25ojFyPvd9pV0KULA8FVHKUB7FuHusFhbKjKBz-tr4vQS2IlmeLiIT5nOfkj21k8v5fYftvwENGh9tOfWOIdNdD_-sCc/s320/0504131843-00.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I got all my promotional material made for my self promotion class. That includes business cards and postcards. Soon as I get settled I want to send some postcards out to potential clients. I finally got a website! I guess I should add it to my "about me" section or just make a new widget for my personal links. But here's my website: <a href="http://kiaramcgruder.com/">http://kiaramcgruder.com/</a>. I'm really proud of it and I think it looks really nice. My "about" section needs some help though. I don't really know what to put there. I will eventually make a "shop" section. But I would like to get my address at my new place and also get settled in before making a shop.<br />
<br />
Speaking of my new place, I got an apartment with a friend! I'm really excited about it. It will be my first apartment. Even though it's a one bedroom apartment we can make it work we've lived like that basically when we were roommates in the dorms. But the apartment is really nice and I can't wait to document my first apartment experience. Soon as I actually move in I'll take pictures of the place. Can't wait!<br />
<br />
Well that's just the big stuff that has happened.<br />

Packaging is one of my favorite things. I decided to do some packaging for jam because I thought it would be a good fit for my style. I did two because I thought doing one would be too easy and wouldn't be enough for a 2 week project.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here are the proposed jam labels for Smucker's. I did one for strawberry jam and concord grape jam. Overall I think they look pretty good. The strawberry jam label is my favorite because I love drawing strawberries and red is my favorite color. If I would do anything different I would do the type in the banner by hand. I couldn't make the text wrap along the banner for anything in the world. So next time I would do the type by hand. I need to practice hand type anyway.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here's a picture of the final 3 dimensional product. In the future I would like to take better pictures of my products. Photography isn't my thing. But I enjoyed working on this project and I would like to do more packaging projects in the future.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-26352773264901496552013-03-13T14:52:00.001-04:002013-03-13T14:52:43.489-04:00Store SignageThis post is late. I wasn't going to post it but I decided to go ahead. This project was for store signage which is art that you see in stores. I was really interested in chalkboard signage. I was thinking of doing the signage for Whole Foods or Fresh Market since I know they use a lot of chalkboard signage in their stores, specifically something for the bakery section since I like baked goods.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSIwlUUiJFVvegHmWJ9gGPbujm8R_024LCX7velzNXe0a1kg2ABNH057z_M4gMV1aHnucFiK1_810bXSGBbULDnRxEdp118mVENFJuixsVd85XDm3hoPty6Sl3IHoh2aggJRM5xg7I2vI/s1600/Bakery+Signage+1+small.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSIwlUUiJFVvegHmWJ9gGPbujm8R_024LCX7velzNXe0a1kg2ABNH057z_M4gMV1aHnucFiK1_810bXSGBbULDnRxEdp118mVENFJuixsVd85XDm3hoPty6Sl3IHoh2aggJRM5xg7I2vI/s200/Bakery+Signage+1+small.jpg" width="150" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV6HuG49c4tFGSJ2KTY0A3GdWvHnIiubeWlnS66P9GSOCO95vHI-sIyxYUfUmY6-n-m8eSuvmUzeCYcl8Cb6nwLRVM6yjcrjbQ91JL1fphdK7BnPTVkvMRyiMbSrk1mDKOW6aamvhUiSs/s1600/Bakery+Signage+2+small.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV6HuG49c4tFGSJ2KTY0A3GdWvHnIiubeWlnS66P9GSOCO95vHI-sIyxYUfUmY6-n-m8eSuvmUzeCYcl8Cb6nwLRVM6yjcrjbQ91JL1fphdK7BnPTVkvMRyiMbSrk1mDKOW6aamvhUiSs/s200/Bakery+Signage+2+small.jpg" width="149" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I did two. I like the first one better since the image is bigger. I wish i would have made the image on the 2nd one bigger or used the space in the composition a lot better. I used chalkboard spray on matte board to create my own chalk board. Then I used chalk markers on the homemade chalkboard. They were erasable like regular chalk, except they came off with water. I had to start over a few times before I started making something that worked for me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My friend recently showed me this bakery (that makes the best oatmeal cookies ever!!!) and we both really want to do store signage for them. They don't really have a lot of art work in the store area and it would be nice if they did. I noticed that had little chalkboards and I would love to do work on them. So today when we visited the bakery we got their business card and I think I'll be contacting them in the future. </div>

I did mines for Toro Y Moi. I had struggled with the piece mainly with the decision of what kind of palette to use. I went through many palettes and hated most of them. But finally I just followed my instinct and used complements red & green and went from there.<br />
<br />
If I would change anything is add a bigger bleed space. I think at one time my bleed space was fine, but then I had to move the "Toro y Moi" text around and make it bigger so it wouldn't bump up next to the trees behind it. I would also do better hand type at the bottom. It's not terrible but it does bother me a bit. It just could have been done a bit better. Overall I'm happy with my gig poster, I think it came out great.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-50851483082583622102013-01-28T15:43:00.000-05:002013-01-28T15:43:19.855-05:00Jail girl<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's more stuff from my moleskine. I wanted to make a post just about jail girl since I have lots of plans for her. She's going to be the main character in a game I want to work on with a friend. So I hope that actually happens.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmddBYB-y9nN7u5TJwoJg_KpIMxtF-HANBcnFX-1zhuhyphenhyphenfHgUeUlBHomEgWhjXzgqf3CuAS87bg0II7iQ8bQ9gPgbmptB6p3r7cW4eDzOBTbk7JJLz94IRvPG5D9Upcb7M6dMZALtv79U/s1600/moleskine+jail+girl+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmddBYB-y9nN7u5TJwoJg_KpIMxtF-HANBcnFX-1zhuhyphenhyphenfHgUeUlBHomEgWhjXzgqf3CuAS87bg0II7iQ8bQ9gPgbmptB6p3r7cW4eDzOBTbk7JJLz94IRvPG5D9Upcb7M6dMZALtv79U/s320/moleskine+jail+girl+1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
I'm suppose to be working on concept art and fleshing out the story more. I want to use my moleskine to develop her more. The other plan I have for her is to make my own art book featuring her. Just a small book with illustrations and maybe some comics. I'll probably also included concept art from my moleskin in the art book. Just depends on what I think people would want to see or how it will look once I layout the pages of the book. But I do know i want the illustrations and comics in the art book to just be done in pink and yellow. Those are just jail girl's colors. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkVxNkVkMDK-3C2rzTXT2FlF8hlGOHCF6swPhfj8B30kyndeGenYIoKvp_GWltMpf3cVuCgBEy4mPKTFNuaZBhlfcE78TORQE7nEgxy3Vakd6C0ICEKZYwioCtMydKFur9KH-GZCIVdUo/s1600/moleskine+jail+girl+2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkVxNkVkMDK-3C2rzTXT2FlF8hlGOHCF6swPhfj8B30kyndeGenYIoKvp_GWltMpf3cVuCgBEy4mPKTFNuaZBhlfcE78TORQE7nEgxy3Vakd6C0ICEKZYwioCtMydKFur9KH-GZCIVdUo/s320/moleskine+jail+girl+2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
Here's an example of a comic that would be in the art book. The ball and chain on the left was me playing with a potential logo for the series. I'm glad I have more than one plan for this because if the game doesn't get made I'll at least have the art book. And the art book is definitely something that would be in my control. The game is suppose to be something short and simple so I'm really hoping it actually gets made, like a demo of some sort.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-12014845641719058022013-01-27T15:01:00.002-05:002013-01-27T15:01:52.993-05:00drawings from moleskine 1I just wanted to show some of the stuff I've been working on in my moleskine. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was suppose to draw this for my friend Josh a long time ago lol. Such a simple thing I kept putting off. But it's done. I hope he likes it. I always tell him to get into his Josh burrito and go to sleep when we chat.</div>

This is a character created by <a href="http://www.miznaw.com/">mizna wada</a>. I think she's a cute character and I enjoy drawing her. I believe she's in a comic made by mizna? I wish I could find more work with her in it, like some comics or something.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is a sketch of the first page of a zine I'm making called 9lives. It's about a cat girl who loses 1 of her lives by doing silly or bad things. I'm taking my time on this project because I really want it to come out good. I hope I can get done with this project before the end of the quarter.<br />
<br />
I would like to continue to post things from my moleskine. I'm suppose to work in it at least an hour a day. I'll try to update my blog with drawings from my moleskine every sunday. It sounds like a good checkpoint.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-54100488104441441042013-01-26T15:41:00.000-05:002013-02-11T17:16:03.210-05:00Shoe adHere is a proposed shoe ad. I chose to do mine on creepers. I thought I could come up with interesting imagery because of the name. Although this wasn't my first choice in terms of composition, I still liked how it came out.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGfdee-zIM1vRWZ_QQmXk85enk7qFnkF2xLrCBkhDiWL4AVosCm5roraDa3Dx11VNythoNuWzuI6MqtybeUd_VIUOCCGSjefU_oca9LX2x9FL9dcC9gvXk42r6y5pOqyFalHOlde4lOGg/s1600/shoe+ad.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGfdee-zIM1vRWZ_QQmXk85enk7qFnkF2xLrCBkhDiWL4AVosCm5roraDa3Dx11VNythoNuWzuI6MqtybeUd_VIUOCCGSjefU_oca9LX2x9FL9dcC9gvXk42r6y5pOqyFalHOlde4lOGg/s320/shoe+ad.png" width="247" /></a></div>
I usually post my work after I've had a critique so I could have more to talk about, but I can't wait. And I already printed this out to be mounted. Basically the creepers are in a coffin shaped shoe box with roses and thorns, pretty simple. It took me a long time to ink all those roses though. But I'm really proud of this poster even though it doesn't feel like an ad to me. I don't even know why. I do think the illustration would catch the eye of someone when they're flipping through the pages of a magazine though.<br />
<br />
Our next assignment is to do a performance poster. I plan on doing a gig poster for Toro Y Moi. I always wanted to do a gig poster so I'm excited. So far I'm really liking advertising, I just don't know if I'll get a lot of advertising work in the future. But it's definitely something I'm interested in.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-87267803826645380072013-01-24T16:48:00.000-05:002013-01-25T00:13:57.171-05:00Children's book pitch<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
For my first assignment in my portfolio class I decided to do a children's book pitch for blue apple books. after critique I felt like I have a while to go before I actually make really good children's book illustration. Nothing really bad was said about my work, but I just personally feel I need to work on it some more before actually pitching something. I still plan to put it in my portfolio though because I do like the illustrations.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiusr2zKaLXcaYVQdxa95vslOhVpQ6zLy38K8LaSiJxWITxl877IWqew6YyyhginLYY9bWzFMvg1lkxYAnaYZ142XCo_zo3VGD6SKgPUu7baywcL1ZjRptdktkFRQxTDSIQ_emyrC9le0w/s1600/cover+abc.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiusr2zKaLXcaYVQdxa95vslOhVpQ6zLy38K8LaSiJxWITxl877IWqew6YyyhginLYY9bWzFMvg1lkxYAnaYZ142XCo_zo3VGD6SKgPUu7baywcL1ZjRptdktkFRQxTDSIQ_emyrC9le0w/s320/cover+abc.png" width="278" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This was my cover and it still needs some work. I wanted the "ABC's" text to go into the magnifying glass (which is why I drew it so big) area but I couldn't get it to look right. I also rushed the whole thing. I mean i like the drawing, I just wish it would have worked out the way I wanted it to. The basic idea was that I wanted to have the "ABC's" text in the magnifying glass but also have the girl included in the cover illustration. Still have to work on it though.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvq0EmKccYaXxOxsw0FuBZCTPXbgttwQu6c4rS9TMpRAyiBpWbgtcLZ_44n7aB9mU_JHRLCL0Gwlr8ol71Xl9WWpR35ZP44MFV7FNX7oyg8RYd4ankvzY6_V3fa1I6cUJGaXHJvTPl9zM/s1600/a+page.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvq0EmKccYaXxOxsw0FuBZCTPXbgttwQu6c4rS9TMpRAyiBpWbgtcLZ_44n7aB9mU_JHRLCL0Gwlr8ol71Xl9WWpR35ZP44MFV7FNX7oyg8RYd4ankvzY6_V3fa1I6cUJGaXHJvTPl9zM/s320/a+page.png" width="279" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I felt like the area on the lower left was too empty. And I was surprised that no one said anything about it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghz9bZ-h7TD95j8vvAnMEg1IQoOmNgGg8q676vFDRu_Ii2kQ-9Y7HdZRZsBRUD7jaUDzQTXL_JVkVvH-coHNGYGf_cjw2XaLuQXdjkJOIJsVQ28Bm_WAMv5Lub-jhRwZsc2CwCEzLU_tY/s1600/f+page.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghz9bZ-h7TD95j8vvAnMEg1IQoOmNgGg8q676vFDRu_Ii2kQ-9Y7HdZRZsBRUD7jaUDzQTXL_JVkVvH-coHNGYGf_cjw2XaLuQXdjkJOIJsVQ28Bm_WAMv5Lub-jhRwZsc2CwCEzLU_tY/s320/f+page.png" width="279" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was my favorite page. I just really like the trees. and over all composition. I had some little green leaves in the right tree but took them out to put the text in. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoNpRkbmMpqwmriadV7vfjlSf4eZEvfH1yeHnE5_mTGWqiXjUXsGJ61FalitYDia-9keVMSeNisVOz5GvQ5kj3e6ePsciD1jsSkq8GfHj3EYrzuhB0SdWFGcLVorDouG6WuuIwG11i7u8/s1600/m+page.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoNpRkbmMpqwmriadV7vfjlSf4eZEvfH1yeHnE5_mTGWqiXjUXsGJ61FalitYDia-9keVMSeNisVOz5GvQ5kj3e6ePsciD1jsSkq8GfHj3EYrzuhB0SdWFGcLVorDouG6WuuIwG11i7u8/s320/m+page.png" width="275" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Um not much to say about this one. I think it's ok. You may have noticed that it was kind of difficult to see the letters, like the "A", "F", and "M", in the illustration itself. My professor told me I should put the letters on something, like the A on a book, or F in a flower. I really like that idea and I will do it whenever I get to redo these pages. Because I really like this idea and I really want to pitch it. I just need to do better. And another thing I need to work on is leaving a bleed space.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I feel like I need to do more research, like actually look at more children's books. I wish I had transportation to a bookstore or library. But I guess I should just look at the children's books that are available in the school's library, it's better than nothing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpkiCGDZnXYTK50gp1sdq_NKojeoDAYCayXwjxfcYCcFHDwdY7yme5Cs667aoXJFtotiqXvwAGyloVvY4UxUVGgbQkqUmQuN4FEWw7srTHNf9Yu_HktbSzCoxtQWyOVtt8zV08zJk_7mU/s1600/little+sailor+maze.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpkiCGDZnXYTK50gp1sdq_NKojeoDAYCayXwjxfcYCcFHDwdY7yme5Cs667aoXJFtotiqXvwAGyloVvY4UxUVGgbQkqUmQuN4FEWw7srTHNf9Yu_HktbSzCoxtQWyOVtt8zV08zJk_7mU/s320/little+sailor+maze.png" width="244" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was a maze I did at the beginning of my children's book class last quarter. I really liked it. I like doing maze illustrations (even if coming up with the maze is kind of difficult). I would love to do more children activities for children's magazines and activity books. I do want to pitch this to some children's magazines in future. </div>

I wanted to post some of the projects I did in fall quarter 2012 that I should have posted in December. I just became a sloth in December. The first project I want to share with you all is my packaging assignment. We had to find something at Hmart to rebranding. I chose these peanut cookies, they were a Korean brand.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJFCp1r2x36Fqx7i1JfxJ9KxRkqWJXKQ8sd0BazU_oLFn1ZKUIeF0sxzU4JodCA5SmACeqZr1uV0A-G4Nd97Fl2Op-sYYYh1uCzJ0We6lgcvdN5utsqZV6Ldajy5EmKPuqgz02R5tF5YI/s1600/packaging+side+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="106" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJFCp1r2x36Fqx7i1JfxJ9KxRkqWJXKQ8sd0BazU_oLFn1ZKUIeF0sxzU4JodCA5SmACeqZr1uV0A-G4Nd97Fl2Op-sYYYh1uCzJ0We6lgcvdN5utsqZV6Ldajy5EmKPuqgz02R5tF5YI/s400/packaging+side+1.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided to use the monkey from my "monkey shenanigans" book for the mascot of the rebranded peanut cookies. Here's the illustration on the very front of the box. I'm proud of the "peanut biscuits" type I did. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJzCQG4lmM2NyoiO_9hNSnqNagxUEbJts89kQGg1Z6c-iVWe_OPIM69d487dMzQQ1Pa09V1-nIxeu-rsjmzxSJEiyGuWSWNR5upcP9yoDtxFw16ajdILNeswzHBudcY6uGFS3s8_fPZuM/s1600/packaging+side+2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="77" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJzCQG4lmM2NyoiO_9hNSnqNagxUEbJts89kQGg1Z6c-iVWe_OPIM69d487dMzQQ1Pa09V1-nIxeu-rsjmzxSJEiyGuWSWNR5upcP9yoDtxFw16ajdILNeswzHBudcY6uGFS3s8_fPZuM/s400/packaging+side+2.png" width="400" /></a></div>
Here is another side of the box. Overall I think I did a decent job. I still need to study more packaging so I can get better. I did this in photoshop. Had to do a lot of scanning because I drew most of the elements including the type in my sketchbook.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYckPu5A0vBE0X27TYI1Ge_B_US5uY9r_fnWkpp7lTU_-zMmIOevkqJ7HokrjLrTTTdFVFRkHDPDz6D7AS4qjBeYinEtKeT6U0ezktEtqg3nGXr4H6XfB35efEfUu0iJ95j-zr0g61YXA/s1600/nesting+dolls.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="307" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYckPu5A0vBE0X27TYI1Ge_B_US5uY9r_fnWkpp7lTU_-zMmIOevkqJ7HokrjLrTTTdFVFRkHDPDz6D7AS4qjBeYinEtKeT6U0ezktEtqg3nGXr4H6XfB35efEfUu0iJ95j-zr0g61YXA/s400/nesting+dolls.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another project we had to do was to design some nesting dolls. I called them "The Jolly Roger Nesting Doll Set". This was actually our first project of the quarter. I'm glad I was able to work in my style. I had to do my own munny dolls and I felt like I couldn't do them the way I wanted to because I wasn't able to work in my style, which is basically cute and simple. I used fluid acrylic and color pencil.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKxRWaDbxttVmUhc3XueJ9Y0eSilk3V0BM509bPi_4XCH8rSNybmIIqeexYrbdaC7d84ZkVg7QfOJ6eRmOHb4nVFsWY_e5tnDtMjjbAM4DX9WNYAODX1OFKaUFM3TGIlJWFCC9Pzd8qOE/s1600/moleskine+8.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKxRWaDbxttVmUhc3XueJ9Y0eSilk3V0BM509bPi_4XCH8rSNybmIIqeexYrbdaC7d84ZkVg7QfOJ6eRmOHb4nVFsWY_e5tnDtMjjbAM4DX9WNYAODX1OFKaUFM3TGIlJWFCC9Pzd8qOE/s320/moleskine+8.png" width="246" /></a></div>
some random mess. i don't know what's going on. i just draw random things that make no sense sometimes i guess. i also like drawing food. that donut came out nice though.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRFV8MWb-tOWbL0p70MuTciWNUO9iLQuKMWqCtlDhrmLjODl8DbBmw4phQ4lex4PLbllTrlDUxys9OiLa-PPYkAcjLI_OHuHNlWJdpYVkcYATOujXp0CUD63U5us_9lDUM36lQngI-buY/s1600/moleskine+9.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRFV8MWb-tOWbL0p70MuTciWNUO9iLQuKMWqCtlDhrmLjODl8DbBmw4phQ4lex4PLbllTrlDUxys9OiLa-PPYkAcjLI_OHuHNlWJdpYVkcYATOujXp0CUD63U5us_9lDUM36lQngI-buY/s320/moleskine+9.png" width="198" /></a></div>
<a href="http://www.miznaw.com/">mizna wada</a> is one of my favorite artists. i've been looking at her work a lot lately. it's cute but also has a dark touch to it. something i want to experiment with in the future.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3c-xaxVooykHzdXf-DnW48B30t_ebl5DkwK-TwFnX7J9L6339niIAJqcCr3hlLTnJhQSEDRqv2fqxHgGwEkSSbtdCOVMl10BNunUKPdg_tWZ_D5fYrdN8WBrQJTQO-CAxV8iwDAqssXE/s1600/moleskine+7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3c-xaxVooykHzdXf-DnW48B30t_ebl5DkwK-TwFnX7J9L6339niIAJqcCr3hlLTnJhQSEDRqv2fqxHgGwEkSSbtdCOVMl10BNunUKPdg_tWZ_D5fYrdN8WBrQJTQO-CAxV8iwDAqssXE/s320/moleskine+7.png" width="199" /></a></div>
i love <a href="http://akshullycomix.tumblr.com/">cassie mccarthy</a>'s psychic cats with their crystals. i tried to draw one myself. but i hate how my crystal came out. and i don't know why i drew those ghosties. i think i did it to fill up the page, or i was looking at something with ghosts.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

on the left page is a tatami galaxy sketch and below it is something from pucca. u w u i really like how cute and simple the art is in that show. on the right page is some sketches of a character for a book i'm working on. it's going to be called 9 lives. and it's about a silly little cat girl that keeps losing one of her 9 lives through stupid things she does.<br />
<br />
well that's all the sketches i have for you right now. at least the ones i want to share. i'll try to post more sketches and drawings from my sketchbook in the future. thanks for reading.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-62501039029543266052012-06-05T21:32:00.000-04:002012-06-05T21:32:34.494-04:00tarot cardsthe quarter is over and now i can rest...for a while. i plan on doing a lot of personal art projects this summer since i know i won't be able to do as much while i'm in school.<br />
<br />
our last project for electronic illustration was to make 3 tarot cards (2 from major arcana and 1 from minor arcana) and we could also do a card back illustration for extra credit. i really wanted to overachieve on this project so i did the 3 cards and a back illustration. i chose the sun and the fool from the major arcana and page of cups from the minor arcana.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1A3w2N3A268rbnDc4JOvqceqLGI7-Nyr03psaNMxXSNulpNFOe7jiWkVIEjm4rbyJyUoWfJADz7wqP4Pr9ZEGhqOo0YaqIRw0NsX3Fy_QHoTocuRYXr3IRajKp8o_Z_KyWT-vRETr3fI/s1600/A4+the+sun.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1A3w2N3A268rbnDc4JOvqceqLGI7-Nyr03psaNMxXSNulpNFOe7jiWkVIEjm4rbyJyUoWfJADz7wqP4Pr9ZEGhqOo0YaqIRw0NsX3Fy_QHoTocuRYXr3IRajKp8o_Z_KyWT-vRETr3fI/s320/A4+the+sun.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
this one is my favorite. for all my cards i took the imagery from the original cards and translated them into my style. so it was based on <a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/17/RWS_Tarot_19_Sun.jpg">this</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGcTvuKr5JaNqSnnl5bURR4BE8WTtrMJ2V58XeDD2spPVceco9AUUJGTOPGM4dqDyWYFNwtyxtXevkoruWJmeYNNReUDETSyBPx_eY1_xVFQo8-DTAJEEXvUj1VW_-zP-QN98cPT_qiiA/s1600/A4+the+fool.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGcTvuKr5JaNqSnnl5bURR4BE8WTtrMJ2V58XeDD2spPVceco9AUUJGTOPGM4dqDyWYFNwtyxtXevkoruWJmeYNNReUDETSyBPx_eY1_xVFQo8-DTAJEEXvUj1VW_-zP-QN98cPT_qiiA/s320/A4+the+fool.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
based on this <a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/90/RWS_Tarot_00_Fool.jpg">card</a>. but i also did the card based on the phrase "mystical cleverness". i wish i would have put the dog next to him. like in my thumbnails there was a dog sitting next to him. but for some reason i forgot to put it into the tight sketch. and i just never drew him back in. i also need to move the stars on left, the ones that are too close to the border, over some.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh04aIen3JdJNJEnCSyJrStA9Oq-sq3IqhOVHd8vV3bPaPqGcVbaUg9LnBXE4vl0b6YbIWojbI4FCakjKoZBdSbx7l25KpA2hq4kK1agBP1eoWLyP_dXjcxOF8sVAebW7In0Ywi3yuiryo/s1600/A4+page+of+cups.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh04aIen3JdJNJEnCSyJrStA9Oq-sq3IqhOVHd8vV3bPaPqGcVbaUg9LnBXE4vl0b6YbIWojbI4FCakjKoZBdSbx7l25KpA2hq4kK1agBP1eoWLyP_dXjcxOF8sVAebW7In0Ywi3yuiryo/s320/A4+page+of+cups.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
i didn't start off liking this one, because i couldn't get the boy to look right on the card. like i basically had to enlarge him and move him more over to the left. that way the fish could fit in too. i also didn't know what to put at the top of the card...so i just threw in some random clouds. but it's based on <a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/ad/Cups11.jpg">this</a>. in the original card i like how the guy goes in to drink but the fish pops out. like i thought that was funny so i decided to play with this and put in my own humor. i wanted to have the boy run on the beach holding the cup with the fish flying out of the cup. well i thought it was funny, it makes me happy. = w =<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

this is the card back illustration i did for extra credit. i wanted to make it pretty simple.<br />
<br />
overall i am very pleased with my cards. the class and my professor liked them too. my professor even said they were "perfectly executed". when i read that in the comments i wanted to cry. and i got a perfect score (105!) on it plus the extra credit for doing the card back. my professor thinks that i should do a whole deck and use it in the self promotion class. i always wanted to do my own tarot card deck, so to hear that gave me more motivation to do more. it's one of the things i want to do over the break. there are a lot of cards in the deck so i'm just going to try to work on the major arcana over the summer.<br />
<br />
the post was pretty wordy. but i hope you enjoyed the illustrations. thanks for reading!kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-50354646054593796362012-05-27T16:05:00.001-04:002012-05-27T16:05:57.941-04:00playing with painterbefore i started on my last assignment for electronic illustration i played with corel painter on the school's computers. i had fun playing with the different brushes. i ended up making something i actually liked.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcJnbU4IY-CQJ2cdYGJP-whv7Z9ureQ3ifTHDUEszaa3D0k3Pg7c6iz5KBBmda8mBCQh3mlIyT__l9tlZf2NRrbg_lTY3DmfaTVjvaS2MwzcqFeqS_d8MGqzII74JxY1wMNymf4VgJlu0/s1600/smallperson.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcJnbU4IY-CQJ2cdYGJP-whv7Z9ureQ3ifTHDUEszaa3D0k3Pg7c6iz5KBBmda8mBCQh3mlIyT__l9tlZf2NRrbg_lTY3DmfaTVjvaS2MwzcqFeqS_d8MGqzII74JxY1wMNymf4VgJlu0/s320/smallperson.png" width="320" /></a></div>
i call it "small person" because the girl is actually really tiny. i made up a stupid story for this, but i'm not going to share that. e w e but i believe i used one of the charcoal brushes for this.<br />
<br />
anyway, it's the last week of the quarter. only 4 more days of classes! i'm so happy, i have many plans for the summer. most of them are art related though. got to do some more stuff for my portfolio and make illustrations for zines. hope i work harder this summer than last. thanks for reading.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-59467171443304318512012-05-15T18:16:00.000-04:002012-05-15T18:16:19.998-04:00instructional comichello. = w = i finished another assignment for editorial illustration and just had critique. it went pretty well. we actually had a choice to either do a positive illstration for a bad
article (like one with bad news) or we could do an instructional comic. i
chose the instructional comic, it sounded more fun. and i really wanted
to do a comic. i didn't come up with the instructions myself, i got the
recipe from the <a href="http://www.instructables.com/">instructables</a> website. i used the recipe for <a href="http://www.instructables.com/id/Chocolate-Coffee-Pinwheels/">chocolate coffee pinwheels</a>. they sounded nice and something i would actually try to bake and eat. so let me show you my comic pages.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2c6cYNWw9PBN4T5_JbXweNX6mDvxOfv3iQwzz2zvhF8lkmbi-GbAwgXueKHATNsYtChoQG8zR3-ZMhAoOw1CCSpUt8f4lmupcqGtyPgoIWXPcBgiB1ilZAAvjQt7i1bNJJp_dhlRxi8g/s1600/McGruder-K-12Spr-ILLU217-Montes-A3+instructional+comic+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2c6cYNWw9PBN4T5_JbXweNX6mDvxOfv3iQwzz2zvhF8lkmbi-GbAwgXueKHATNsYtChoQG8zR3-ZMhAoOw1CCSpUt8f4lmupcqGtyPgoIWXPcBgiB1ilZAAvjQt7i1bNJJp_dhlRxi8g/s320/McGruder-K-12Spr-ILLU217-Montes-A3+instructional+comic+1.png" width="249" /></a></div>
here's my first page. it's just a girl and her cat baking. my professor said the last panel was still too dark (he told me this earlier in a past class and i tried lightening it up with some highlights, but i should have added more highlights or made them stronger).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5ezNz2E87ETPV1q7qmHv2KbB99ZLlLOSClz1QG4vzNC4bPODmQvAuCFF5OlM9mDG0n9GcSbk5Gq4Ujqr_PigzFsgQF8aRsPbfxH13OnrsfPMFp5Ov1Rtb-ChfacV_lhXvUkbPXvWfFgc/s1600/McGruder-K-12Spr-ILLU217-Montes-A3+instructional+comic+2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5ezNz2E87ETPV1q7qmHv2KbB99ZLlLOSClz1QG4vzNC4bPODmQvAuCFF5OlM9mDG0n9GcSbk5Gq4Ujqr_PigzFsgQF8aRsPbfxH13OnrsfPMFp5Ov1Rtb-ChfacV_lhXvUkbPXvWfFgc/s320/McGruder-K-12Spr-ILLU217-Montes-A3+instructional+comic+2.png" width="249" /></a></div>
here's the second page. i still should have lightened up some areas. and i have this tangent on the last panel, like in the area with the right roll and the cloud. they're kind of touching or about to touch.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmu5qLxeKUTafUsYiXuO0llmrGwaGweyT0O1illLx7-A3fDr-XZ86sOxm5iNtx_VgbRBvZemT8AJMvQpKUx9Bg0PzsbJkQRHR0IuKsuwcvxxAF9_R1wr020rsbYoS2yanssvjw2-D_9EU/s1600/McGruder-K-12Spr-ILLU217-Montes-A3+instructional+comic+3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmu5qLxeKUTafUsYiXuO0llmrGwaGweyT0O1illLx7-A3fDr-XZ86sOxm5iNtx_VgbRBvZemT8AJMvQpKUx9Bg0PzsbJkQRHR0IuKsuwcvxxAF9_R1wr020rsbYoS2yanssvjw2-D_9EU/s320/McGruder-K-12Spr-ILLU217-Montes-A3+instructional+comic+3.png" width="249" /></a></div>
this is the last page. this one was pretty ok. my professor thought i could have used a light in the stove window. but other than that, it was ok. overall, he liked them and everything. he even commented on how flat and geometric things are but it doesn't make it boring. like i get that look to work. and most of my classmates liked my color palette (i used kuler in photoshop. they also have a website). i just wanted to try using another palette. i usually use bright saturated colors. so it was nice to try something new. i want to continue experimenting with different color palettes.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimqGOECCBlUCrQxTGiZZ2xFM3OgiwGTLVK3DhFPzXtaX-8o0hxqhf0wMl3ZOrEsKdFpD7B5qaF_qdtb5UX1RTrTiiwRERegmzyrT6w-s5f62nDSvFjUtpQetBWyZ6HbFvhuiU9CIp0pWo/s1600/a2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimqGOECCBlUCrQxTGiZZ2xFM3OgiwGTLVK3DhFPzXtaX-8o0hxqhf0wMl3ZOrEsKdFpD7B5qaF_qdtb5UX1RTrTiiwRERegmzyrT6w-s5f62nDSvFjUtpQetBWyZ6HbFvhuiU9CIp0pWo/s320/a2.png" width="247" /></a></div>
this was the 2nd assignment for my electronic illustration class. we had to make a menu cover for midtown diner. we also had to make it look old/vintage. we started off in illustrator and did some stuff in photoshop. i started off not caring too much for the illustration while it was in illustrator. but once i put it in photoshop and made it look aged i loved it. i loved it even more once i got it printed. a cool thing happened though, it got put up in a case at school. i'm so happy and proud.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJU20F4HqEIo6lbWIOj1jvfQ4b8Xm9M0NjRdMUaWzuU_phyxzCVwEVTN47eVCuKXziGO2JG3e7U96lpODbRSvZNj38DiK5boGG8qccaKSiPHb8VV8BhnhYL4mrpoBS81yl9RKAJzuwQpM/s1600/a2ed.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJU20F4HqEIo6lbWIOj1jvfQ4b8Xm9M0NjRdMUaWzuU_phyxzCVwEVTN47eVCuKXziGO2JG3e7U96lpODbRSvZNj38DiK5boGG8qccaKSiPHb8VV8BhnhYL4mrpoBS81yl9RKAJzuwQpM/s320/a2ed.png" width="249" /></a></div>
this was my 2nd assignment for my editorial illustration class. we had to do an illustration for a book or movie review. i did mines on a book review on <i>coral reefs</i> by jason chin. i'm going to be honest and say i'm not too crazy about this. i think it's because it's so busy, i like my compositions to be a bit more simple than this. but the picture being busy is appropriate because of the setting. but i do love all the colors though.<br />
<br />
midterms went great and i'm looking forward to the rest of the quarter. thanks for reading.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-60800184466469772472012-04-17T13:57:00.000-04:002012-05-04T16:02:53.288-04:00editorial illustrationone of the classes i'm taking this quarter is editorial illustration. i was kind of intimidated by editorial illustration. it seemed so serious and required me to think outside the box. but after doing my first illustration for the class i felt better about everything.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk3h7rf5lxG9MlS-bS8cJlsNcNCeO0XC4JBHg897z7AzJJdF3FXXwCWAnxlYevwNTLV742HyHiAA6EbhonkrvOr4FlDfJZ08xQqGIgb0TpnePsLy6CGjOaHgPOhNcmqscP2h1u5elcNVc/s1600/McGruder-K-12Spr-ILLU217-Montes-A1+Going+Green.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="188" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk3h7rf5lxG9MlS-bS8cJlsNcNCeO0XC4JBHg897z7AzJJdF3FXXwCWAnxlYevwNTLV742HyHiAA6EbhonkrvOr4FlDfJZ08xQqGIgb0TpnePsLy6CGjOaHgPOhNcmqscP2h1u5elcNVc/s320/McGruder-K-12Spr-ILLU217-Montes-A1+Going+Green.png" width="320" /></a></div>
for our first assignment we had to pick an article about going green. the article i chose was about a school that incorporated the environment into their curriculum. they even taught classes outside. so after i showed the class my thumbnails they gave me more ideas and suggestions. i took their suggestions and ended up going with a student at a desk. and in the desk was soil and sprouting plants. (i know my desk is wonky, but i think it works) and there's trees in the background.<br />
<br />
i learned a lot doing this project. i learned how to make brushes and how to use textures i create with traditional media and turn them into brushes and textures i could use in my illustrations. and i'm so glad i learned this. i think this is a way i could make my cute illustrations more sophisticated. i also learned that i need to work on my palettes more. i mean sometimes i get and sometimes my palette is all over the place. but i'll get better.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-31742269064946624802012-04-01T20:17:00.003-04:002012-04-01T20:28:26.616-04:00I got tagged! Now for the survey
questions!!!</div>
<div style="font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: 'MS UI Gothic';">◆</span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">How was your high school year?</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
I've graduated from
high school and I'm so glad. I hated high school so much. But now I'm happy at
my dream collage. So far my school year has been wonderful. I learned so much.
And I even became more confident in my style. I thought no one would take my
cute simple art seriously. But I had professors tell me that my art is very
marketable and that just made me so happy.</div>
<div style="font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: 'MS UI Gothic';">◆</span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Which toy was your favorite as a kid?</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
This is a hard
question. I would switch between toys like every month. I had a system. First I
had to decide if I wanted my fav toy to be a big (a stuffed animal or baby
doll) or little toy (something like a barbie). I have no idea. I would change
so often. I do know it took me forever to stop playing with barbies though.</div>
<div style="font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: 'MS UI Gothic';">◆</span><span style="font-family: Calibri;">What's the most important thing you own?</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt; margin: 0in;">
Probably my laptop,
tablet, stuff I draw with, rilakkuma, and my bags...everything I guess. I love
my stuff. I feel like it's all important which is why I'm terrible at throwing
stuff away.</div>

Aaaah...i have so
many. The first person I can think of is my friend <b><a href="http://joijoijiojijioijoijoijojojj.tumblr.com/">Kelly</a></b>. Her art is visually
pleasing to me. And I feel like her work has substance. I also like how she has
her own visual language that she uses in her work. I was lucky enough to have some
of her artwork. <b><a href="http://milkbbi.com/projects.html">Justin Wallis</a></b> is another. I love how his work gives me a very warm
and nostalgic feeling. <b><a href="http://www.cockjoshran.net/">Jane mai</a></b> is also
one of my fav artists. She just makes me laugh. I also love her comics. <span style="font-size: 11pt;">(from left to right: jane mai, justin wallis, and kelly kwang)</span></div>

I don't really have
a fav pair. I'm not a huge shoe person, especially since I have flat feet and I
have to have support in the shoe. So my mom always want me to get specific
types of shoes. Even though I don't always listen to her. I just have sneakers.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

i drew this last weekend. i wanted to do a picture where i used pastels. i like how it came out. at first i was using all the colors you see now plus pastel blue and yellow. and i thought it looked horrible. so i took out the blue and yellow and just stuck with the purples and pinks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
i hope i can post more personal work this quarter. i plan on drawing more in my sketchbook. i'm determined to do a really good sketchbook this quarter just for self-satisfaction.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfNmiBm_Yij3MH8Ru1rLf_ADjWmb05KAS8y0DV2ppMOLtRrAzoRE4f0XHpCln_8MxS0kn_5AZv4gM0G1mtsgBqokcVreIMmX7-5jzpK0E8JqFAweFCzLOW0Ny2BmMTJbgJbZQ_QJnrfxA/s1600/i'll+eat+you+up.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfNmiBm_Yij3MH8Ru1rLf_ADjWmb05KAS8y0DV2ppMOLtRrAzoRE4f0XHpCln_8MxS0kn_5AZv4gM0G1mtsgBqokcVreIMmX7-5jzpK0E8JqFAweFCzLOW0Ny2BmMTJbgJbZQ_QJnrfxA/s320/i'll+eat+you+up.png" width="259" /></a></div>
i'm only posting one of them. this one is my favorite and also the last one i did. and i was mad because i came up with this technique on my last piece. and this technique i did would have made my life easier and i wouldn't have wasted a lot of time.<br />
<br />
the background is just torn tissue paper. the first layer being yellow. then i laid on the pink tissue paper. the pink tissue paper was suppose to act as a speech bubble. for max and the wild thing i drew them on tracing paper, inked them and then colored them in with color pencil. i went over the color pencil with turpenoid. i love this stuff, it help blends in the color pencil. i felt like i was painting without making the tracing paper too wet. after that i glued it to the surface. next i drew "i'll eat you up" on some tracing paper, went over the letters with a red marker, cut them out, and pasted them on the board. oh and i did the collage on some canson board. i really like it. it's also within my budget. e w e<br />
<br />
over all this specific process went so quickly and i wish i would have came up with it at the beginning of the assignment. next time i would use vellum instead of tracing paper. i only used tracing paper because it's something i had. it worked pretty good though.<br />
<br />

since i only did 10 illustrations, i needed something to put on the back of the illustrations. so i decided to put simple patters on the back of each illustration. i only made 3 so they are repeated throughout the book.<br />

overall i'm really happy that everything worked out. i think my professor is keeping the artworks. so i probably would have to make myself another one. but i now know i can perfect bind. i would love to make my own art book to sell and have it perfect bound. so i had fun doing this. and i'm looking forward to creating more books.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-71960834377860569752012-02-24T22:39:00.000-05:002012-02-24T22:39:07.270-05:00second set of collagesfor our next collage project we had to do 4, 8 x 10 collages. two had to be abstract and 2 had to be illustrations. overall the whole class did better than before. like everyone improved. my professor was so pleased to see how we evolved from the first set of collages. here are mine:<br />

here are my abstract pieces. my professor said i'm good at them. she really liked the layers. i liked these. i found them relaxing while i was working them. like i could lay back and just watch them come together on their own.<br />

these were my two illustration ones. when it got to these two, my professor thought i was too stiff with these. and i agree. i wish i had more time to work on them. she thought i could have slanted some of the elements like i did with my abstract pieces to make them more interesting.<br />
<br />
for our next assignment, we are doing 4 more in the same size. i really want to produce better ones. and try a different technique. i hope i get my ideas together before class so i can just get started on them so i can spend the appropriate time on each piece.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-741453824225412361.post-71759128070901465942012-02-09T20:48:00.000-05:002012-02-09T20:48:45.198-05:00a few collage trading cardswe had to do 10 trading cards. here are my favorites.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI3oV3_Uu6Kda5ykNzKBEIV5FDUPw6B4qSM0lwej9Z8e9nehv0dcG_66Hs24VzN8TdwcBGJNMsn02VITCZMAjbOoa6XomgN7DYf-hya6gf6v_6VpfQ0MX2fK93GDF8sE6h3jqaZG8Vwgg/s1600/standing+near+castle.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI3oV3_Uu6Kda5ykNzKBEIV5FDUPw6B4qSM0lwej9Z8e9nehv0dcG_66Hs24VzN8TdwcBGJNMsn02VITCZMAjbOoa6XomgN7DYf-hya6gf6v_6VpfQ0MX2fK93GDF8sE6h3jqaZG8Vwgg/s320/standing+near+castle.png" width="229" /></a></div>
this is the prince hare. i love my line work on him. this one is my favorite one of all. i also like the colors i used. i just love the way these colors look. i don't know why. i feel like purple is a royal color. it's also pretty cool in temperature. i also like colors that are analogous to purple.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirXcyy8zV1oXjGIgVNjd-t0NnKwms1pY16cMP_uYEMyp3nJG_3-9KrOJPX8LI3F30TiaFQE38rcT5nAhwYBgCJqhFM933o_Q-NCPzcocc86C_D4X28zBEi-QL_5rlYHORaxazjH2gxDVA/s1600/walking+away+from+castle.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirXcyy8zV1oXjGIgVNjd-t0NnKwms1pY16cMP_uYEMyp3nJG_3-9KrOJPX8LI3F30TiaFQE38rcT5nAhwYBgCJqhFM933o_Q-NCPzcocc86C_D4X28zBEi-QL_5rlYHORaxazjH2gxDVA/s320/walking+away+from+castle.png" width="226" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
this is my bunny girl. she has a hood, but i cut it off here. she's walking away from the castle. again i love the colors i used. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4RqmCEYk5GeSbBOUNLtCiDm_uP1TmC0zu_TwAAN12oMo_nrw5X5fp-cTcvNOoEKbrNGN8kOltGG17F8TCkUINh9oontg3470seL3rIsyCcK7XVC6ANv4y95gLaRA_pZ5KWeiY9KeQbGk/s1600/front+of+castle.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4RqmCEYk5GeSbBOUNLtCiDm_uP1TmC0zu_TwAAN12oMo_nrw5X5fp-cTcvNOoEKbrNGN8kOltGG17F8TCkUINh9oontg3470seL3rIsyCcK7XVC6ANv4y95gLaRA_pZ5KWeiY9KeQbGk/s320/front+of+castle.png" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
i'll add this one in here. i wish i would have added more line work into these two. i think it would have made this one stronger. because of the three this one feels week. i don't know. maybe that's just my opinion. maybe if they had more color? like in person, they're covered with pink tissue paper, but since i edited it, you can't really see it here. but even if i could see the pink tissue paper, i still feel like i should have added more to the figures.<br />
<br />
i used pictures of cathedrals to make the castles. like some i just cut parts of them off. some i added with another building to make a new one. and i painted over them. after my professor saw these she asked if i like cute and of course i said yes. she feels that i need to pursue this because it's marketable, but i need to figure out how to make them sophisticated. and i agree. but i'm kind of loss on how i would go about doing that. if you all have any suggestions please share them with me.kiakakeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318768515047781143noreply@blogger.com0
